ExDocs, now live in the UK: AI-powered software for exporters, importers and domestic sellers

ExDocs is now live in the UK: AI-powered software for exporters, importers and domestic sellers. It’s built to UK rules, your data is held in London, and you can try it free for 14 days with no card.

Why we built it

Every shipment starts with paperwork: the proforma, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. In the UK and across Europe, small exporters and importers still make these by hand in Word and Excel. There’s no software for this part of the job. The same details get typed out again and again, and one typo can hold the goods at the port.

The software that does exist covers the other end: the customs declaration that gets filed with HMRC. Small traders pay for that separately, often around £30 for each declaration through a broker or filing service, and it still doesn’t touch the documents that come before it.

We were already building trade software for exporters, so we saw the gap clearly: the documents that come before the declaration have been left out entirely. That’s why we launched ExDocs in the UK. It’s built around one idea: describe the shipment or order once, in plain English, and let the AI do the paperwork.

What you can do with it

  • Exports. Tell the AI about the shipment and it drafts the proforma, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin from one record. Commodity codes come from HMRC’s own Trade Tariff, and container planning shows how the cartons fit.
  • Imports. Duty and import VAT are worked out for every shipment, and you see the landed cost of each unit: goods, freight, duty and clearance.
  • Domestic sales. Quote, invoice, deliver and get paid at home, alongside your exports.
  • Production. Purchase orders, subcontracting, raw materials and job costing, for any kind of manufacturing.
  • Inventory. Stock updates itself as goods come in and go out. There’s no separate stock entry.
  • Exhibitions. At a trade fair, buyers scan your stand tags on their own phone, and every enquiry lands in your pipeline. You won’t find this in other trade software.
  • Reports. Sales, stock and who owes you, and since when.
  • Multi-currency. Quote, invoice and get paid in your buyer’s currency.
  • Multi-company. Run more than one trading business from a single login.
  • Multi-country. Each country gets its own edition, built to its own rules. The UK edition is live, alongside India.

Why now

  • UK CBAM starts in January 2027. Importers of steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers and hydrogen will need to report embedded carbon. ExDocs is ready for CBAM and the EU’s deforestation rules (EUDR).
  • HMRC is building the UK Single Trade Window, one place for trade data. Clean, consistent documents from day one make that easier.
  • The government wants more small firms exporting. Only about one in eight UK SMEs exports today. Paperwork shouldn’t be the reason.

What’s next: customs declarations (CDS)

Every UK import and export declaration is filed with HMRC through its Customs Declaration Service, known as CDS. Today, that filing is the part small traders pay someone else for, one declaration at a time.

ExDocs already covers the documents that come before it. Next, we’re building CDS filing into ExDocs, so the details on your invoice and packing list flow straight into the declaration. Our aim is one place where a small exporter or importer in the UK, and then Ireland, can handle the whole shipment, from the first document to customs clearance.
